For this reason, we have created a single course covering the most useful and powerful functionality. This will enable you to pick up any version of the software and use it effectively. A very small number of lessons cover functionality not available in some older versions of Excel, and we mention where this is the case.

  • For Mac: 2016

Versions unsuitable for the course

Knowledgeable instructor and very well presented.
— Pauline K
A very to the point and informative course, highly recommended.
— Mohammad W
Thoroughly enjoyed the course as it was very well paced. Bite sized yet providing clear concise detailed instructions that I could follow the activities in a separate local spreadsheet and learn by doing. Good clarity in speech and good examples help. The instructor also reverts back quickly if you have a question or suggestion.
— Cathy B
The instructor does a good job of starting simple and building up to more complex ideas using practical examples.
— Jerrett M
This course is simple and coherent.
It is well taught and I do feel that I’ve gained important, practical information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions we receive.

What is Data Minded?

Data Minded is an online Excel training course for individuals and businesses that helps students become expert Excel users as quickly as possible.

What difficulty level is Data Minded?

Most Excel courses are split into beginner, intermediate and advanced. We don't think it's necessary to charge you for 3 courses! Data Minded covers a comprehensive skill set from beginner to advanced. You should be familiar with the Excel interface and be able to perform basic tasks such as entering text and numbers or changing the font.

How long is the course?

The course contains over 6 hours of HD video, downloadable fact sheets, 6 online quizzes, and over 25 practice exercises. You can also download the examples used in each lesson to try it out for yourself.

How actionable is the course?

Highly actionable! We've been teaching Excel in businesses and online for over 10 years, and we've perfected a blend of practical and tutorial based learning that results in the most actionable Excel skills. Becoming great at Excel isn't just about learning what all the buttons and formulas do - it's an approach to creative problem solving that can be used across not only Excel but data analytics, process improvement and more.

Is it mobile friendly?

Yes! The course is hosted on Teachable, an online learning platform with a downloadable app for learning on the go.

Can I expense this at my company or write it off in my business?

No accountants were involved in the making of this advice, but many students get the training reimbursed by work or write it off as a training expense for their business.

What versions of Excel can I use on this course?

The course is recorded in Excel 2016 for Windows, also known as Excel 365. Any Windows version of Excel from 2007 onwards is suitable for the course, although buttons and menus may look slightly different. Excel for Mac 2013 onwards is suitable for the course, although the interface does look different we note where specific functionality is not available. The course is not suitable for Excel for Mac 2011 or Excel for iOS, due to its limited functionality. The course does not cover other spreadsheet packages such as OpenOffice, or Numbers for Mac.

When does enrollment start?

Data Minded is a self paced learning course. Start when you are ready, you'll never lose access to the content.

What secret tactics am I going to learn that no one else knows?

All Excel courses will teach you how to do a VLOOKUP or how to use Pivot Tables, but we wanted to go one step further. You'll learn repeatable methods to create in depth data analysis, design great looking reports & dashboards, and be able to automate complex business processes. We believe that learning Excel is not just about what the buttons do - it's more about using those tools to methodically solve business data problems over and over again, getting your work right first time.

What if I don't like it?

The course includes a 30 day money back guarantee, no questions asked.

How long will I have access to content?

The course includes unlimited, unrestricted lifetime access, and free updates for life.

What if Microsoft bring out a new version of Excel?

As Excel geeks ourselves, we're always on the lookout for new Excel functionality. When Microsoft release a new version we will update the course with any relevant new material.

What are the other options?

Excel is one of the widest taught topics online - so we know there are countless other places you could go to study. Learning for free using tutorial websites, reading books or YouTube is fine, but it requires patience to learn by trial and error. We also know scores of colleagues and friends who have taken classroom based one day courses, and come away with a nice booklet, but no lasting ability to use Excel.

What is the Data Minded Excel Certification, and do I need it?

When you finish the course, you'll be able to earn the Data Minded Excel certification.

Finish the course, pass the test and you'll earn your certification (it automatically integrates with LinkedIn). This certification is not an official accredited Microsoft certification, but will show recruiters and clients that you're an advanced Excel user.

As for whether or not you need an Excel certification, the short answer is no. Excel certification is not required for this industry, but some people like to show future recruiters and clients that they (or their staff) have taken and earned the certification.
